As a multiligual mum, not only do I get to sift through gazillions of apps, I get to do so in several languages. I generally struggle to find them in the minority languages I want and if I do find a bilingual app, it almost always defaults back to English the next time it’s opened, leaving me caught in my favorite untruth:
Ma cherie, ca marche que en Français/Español ! (Darling, it only works in French/Spanish)
Cue app launch in English. Le sigh.
So Christmas has come early for this Mama with the discovery of Windy and Friends, a fab Canadian creation. It has both French and English options and once selected, it opens in French each time!
Does MultilingualMama like this app? You bet your Christmas stockings I do.
Do MultilingualMama’s kids like this app? Understatement of the year!
What this picture doesn’t show of course is the other kid making a move for an iPad snatch. After a few initial whinges and a reminder that Papa Noël is watching, the girls shared beautifully.
They loved the entire appisode and were particularly fond of this gingerbread decorating screen, the music playing, and the memory game.
Me, I am loving the old-school feel to the characters and the beautiful simplicity to the design. Plus as a homeschooler who encourages my girls to get crafty whenever they want, they have been inspired by the colourful handcrafted images and are already getting creative in new ways at home.
Did I mention I love the fact I have it set to French and buy myself some guilt-free time?
Here’s a little preview of the Christmas Appisode available here:
